Guide to Anqi (Part 1: My Name)

My name is Angela.
Anqi is a name given by my god-sister (T) and I love it! I love the sound of it! I love its meaning! Anqi is a rough translation of my English name (Angela) into Chinese. In Chinese, "An" means peaceful, safe, sercure and steady. "Qi" means beauty. So I in short, I am a "steady beauty"... Hahaa ...

There was a need to translate my name because 3 years ago, most of my colleagues communicated in Chinese. Yes, I have a Chinese name but it is so seldom used that I seldom have any response when it is used. Hee-hee ... You can imagine the frustrations of my colleagues calling my Chinese name at the top of their vocies while I am sitting just across the table but I never respond to them!! A few other Chinese translations exist. The earliest translation was Anqila. My colleagues literally translated based on pronunciation: "An-ge-la" became "An-qi-la". Hence my blog address is "anqila" and my blog name is "Anqi".

The first time I was asked to sign a card, I sat down with the card and thought very seriously about what I was going to write. The usual greetings had already been written by my fellow classmates. What can I write that will genuinely express my wishes and is unique? It has to be short and sweet because the card had very little space for me to sign by then. Finally I signed: Angel-a Blessings. Since then whenever I have to sign any card, guestbook or autograph, I always sign "Angel-a Blessings".

I cannot use "Angel-a Blessings" for my username here at blogger.com so I used "angelblessings". Me love the sound of it =)
